The purpose of using junction directories is to create consistent links between all workstations, regardless of what drive they choose to store all of the files from a given project. As stated above, a common problem when working collaboratively on art, is that someone storing textures on their E:\ drive, will not be able to open files successfully from someone storing textures on their D:\  drive. Junctions solve this by creating a “symbolic link” to a directory that everyone has. Essentially, it’s a fake directory actually being stored somewhere else, allowing everyone to use the same project structure and maintain enough space to add to the project.
